Sizzle

Experience the world through the eyes of Sizzle, a wooden salamander who can shoot sparks. Use Sizzle's sparks and lively movement to explore the underground, discover short stories, and collect snails in this story-driven puzzle game.

This was a 3D game I worked on during a part-time co-op at Magic Spell Studios. My job was to determine the visual direction of the game. I was primarily a concept artist, where I designed environment assets and characters. I had a secondary job where I designed levels and set dressed them in Unity.

Environment

This was a challenge for me. Environments are a weak point of mine, and it was a huge part of what I did for Sizzle. Along with plant decorations, I had to design modular pieces of architecture, which I knew nothing about.

Textures

In addition to concept art, I made a few textures.

Sizzle

These were the original textures I did for Sizzle--done by drawing over UV maps in procreate. This version was too realistic and too detailed.

After fall Makers, I retextured Sizzle to fit my vision. This version is much simpler and more cartoony, which I thought fit the general aesthetic better than the original.
